on friendship & beautiful encounters

she looked at me with delight and exclaimed “well that’s exactly what i was thinking and you’ve said it so accurately, oh you should be a fashion editor…

i had the most wondrous encounter today.

let me rewind to a couple of days ago whilst at work when i couldn't stop thinking about a group of Dutch ladies who had come to the store late twenty twenty four and had left a positive impression on me. i remember how much fun they had discovering the new collection; trying on multiple pieces, laughing out loud in the fitting rooms and just bringing a joyful energy to the floor. it’s rare to have such energy in luxury stores hence why i think about them often.

fast forward to today, lo and behold the very same group of friends returned. the chances of this happening are very slim because they don’t live in paris. i then discovered that they are based in the netherlands and make two annual trips just as girls. what are the odds that they would appear during a time that i was genuinely thinking about them?

anyways, after multiple try ons and a much needed catchup punctuated by laughter and that delicious feminine joy, one of them affirmed me with the words that form the introduction to this blog.

my experience with this group of women made me reflect on the beauty in cultivating healthy friendships. a friend of mine, thandie, once said "sisterhood is delicious" and this is accurate when i think of them. it may feel like work sometimes because to be fair, life can be such a rollercoaster ride of seemingly endless responsibilities but do not deny yourself the sweet sweet fragrance that is produced by deep human connections. i'll leave this here for now as i too need to work on my relationships.

by the way, whether you genuinely engaged with this article word for word or simply browsed through to the conclusion, thank you. you spared precious minutes out of your twenty four hours and i appreciate it. this is my first attempt at this writing thing, publicly that is. i’ve been told that I have “a way with words” or a unique perspective that deserves to be shared with the world so here we go. i do not know for certain the content you’re to expect for me but trust that these are just the observations, opinions and musings of a heart committed to creating a beautiful world.

in light,

tiyamike💜
